Talk to Me Thursday: Chasing Our New School Routine

We're a few weeks into this new school year now, and I keep coming back to the same thought: this new routine feels good, but man, it is such a struggle to actually get into the groove of it. You know that saying that it takes 21 days to build a habit? I am holding onto that with everything I've got, because if that's true, we should be turning a corner right about now. Fingers crossed.

Since a few of you have asked what our week actually looks like right now, I figured I'd just show you. Buckle up.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Office Days = Chaos Mode

These three mornings are the wild ones. I'm back in the office, which means I have to be dressed, ready, and have everything I need before I even think about anyone else — while also making sure Jesse is up so we're not fighting over the bathroom (a real and ongoing negotiation, send help). Then it's Lenny Bugs time: sign the folder, pack the snack, pack the lunch, fill the water bottle, figure out whatever else she might need that day, make sure she's dressed correctly for whatever special is on the schedule (because heaven forbid we get that wrong), fed, and ready to go. Oh, and the dog still needs to be fed and let out somewhere in all of that too. It is genuinely ALL. THE. THINGS.

Because mornings are already maxed out, my workouts get pushed to after work on these days. Except — plot twist — we just started back to dance, which now lands on Monday and Wednesday evenings. So now it's straight from work into dance mode. It is pure, unfiltered chaos, and honestly? People wonder why moms are stressed and burnt out. Ha! I promise I'm laughing so I don't cry. 😅

Thursday and Friday: The Days I Live For

These two days are my favorite of the whole week, because I work from home, which means slower mornings. I get to gently put myself together instead of sprinting through it, and my focus can actually just be on Lennon and Diego and getting to school on time without the extra layer of "and also be at the office & ready by 8am."

After drop-off, I come home, squeeze in a quick workout, then re-pull myself together and log in for work. It's still a routine, but it's a routine that lets me breathe, and I notice the difference in my whole mood on these days.

The Real MVP: Sunday Prep and Reset

If any part of our week is holding this whole thing together, it's Sunday. This is so much more than laundry and clean sheets (though obviously that too) — it's laying out Lennon's clothes for the entire week in her organizer, prepping as many lunches ahead as I can, baking bread or muffins (sometimes both, don't judge me), and knocking out whatever prep work I can get ahead on before Monday hits.

And Saturday Sets It All Up

Saturday mornings are for meal planning and grocery shopping, tidying up the house, and generally trying to put our best foot forward for the week ahead. It's not glamorous, but it is absolutely the reason Sunday and the weekday mornings function at all.

Here's Hoping We're Rocking It Soon

So that's our routine right now — beautiful, chaotic, exhausting, and (I really do believe) worth it. If we really do hit that habit-forming mark soon, I'll take it. Until then, I'm just doing my best to keep the folder signed, the snacks packed, and the dance shoes found on time.

Tell me — what does your week actually look like right now? I'd love to know I'm not the only one living in organized chaos. 💛
