Why Hollywood Studios Is a Non-Skip Park (Yes, Even With Fewer Rides)

I hear it all the time when I'm planning trips: "Do we really need a full day at Hollywood Studios?" And every single time, my answer is the same — yes. A thousand times yes. Is it the park with the fewest rides at Walt Disney World? Sure. But ride count has never told the whole story here, and I want to tell you why this park deserves a full day on your itinerary, not a rushed half-day afterthought.

Two Full Lands That Feel Like Stepping Into a Movie

Let's start with the obvious: Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Whether you're piloting the Millennium Falcon on Smugglers Run or getting pulled into the fight on Rise of the Resistance, this land doesn't just look like a galaxy far, far away — it sounds and feels like it too. Even non-Star Wars-fans in your group will get swept up in it.

Then there's Toy Story Land, where you're shrunk down to the size of one of Andy's toys, weaving between giant crayons and building blocks. Slinky Dog Dash is one of the best family coasters in all of Disney World, and Alien Swirling Saucers is pure, goofy fun for the littles. This is a land that genuinely works for every age in your family at the same time — which, if you've traveled with a mixed-age crew, you know is not something every land can claim.

The Shows Alone Are Worth the Day

If you only judge this park by ride count, you're missing the best part. Hollywood Studios has some of the best live entertainment anywhere on property, and honestly, some of these shows feel like full Broadway-caliber productions.

Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is genuinely one of my new favorite things at the entire park — catchy songs, sassy performances, incredible visuals. If you love the villains as much as the heroes (no judgment, we all do), this one is a must. ‍

The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is a gorgeous, fully reimagined take on the classic story, complete with live performers and songs like "Part of Your World" and "Kiss the Girl." It's the kind of show that makes you forget you're sitting in a theme park theater.‍ ‍

Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage is a Hollywood-style musical that's been a fan favorite for years, and it holds up every single time — big voices, beautiful staging, all the nostalgia.

And then there's For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, which I have to be honest — this one is genuinely funny, even more as an adult with zero kids in tow. The narrator's commentary alone will have you cracking up while you're singing along to "Let It Go" whether you meant to or not.

These shows aren't filler between rides — they're a core part of why this park works. Build time into your day to actually sit down and watch a few, because they pull you fully into the theme of the park in a way rides alone can't.

There's Even More Beyond the Big Shows

On top of all that, this is the park where Disney really flexes its entertainment muscle. Between Fantasmic!, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, and character encounters around every corner, Hollywood Studios is built for guests who want more than just a line and a ride vehicle. Add in the food — this park does not play around when it comes to dining — and you've got a full day that never feels like it's dragging.

A Park for Everyone — Boys, Girls, Toddlers to Teens

This is honestly one of my favorite things about this park: it doesn't cater to one type of kid. Your Star Wars-obsessed son and your Toy Story-loving daughter can both have their dream day here. Toddlers have gentle rides and character meet-and-greets, older kids and thrill-seekers have Slinky Dog Dash and Rise of the Resistance, and teens (and adults, let's be honest) get swept up in the immersive theming of Galaxy's Edge. Few parks pull off that range as well as this one does.

And There's Even More Coming

If you needed another reason to be excited about Hollywood Studios, here it is: Monstropolis is on the way — a brand-new land themed to Pixar's Monsters, Inc., complete with a suspended coaster and plenty of laughs, opening in phases starting in 2027. And even sooner, the reimagined Walt Disney Studios Courtyard is bringing us The Magic of Disney Animation, a whole new take on the old Animation Courtyard inspired by the real Disney Animation studios in Burbank — the courtyard is open, but there’s more opening September 14!

This park is only getting better, and I love that it's still holding onto that "one great day" feel while adding so much new magic.
