Travel Tip Tuesday: Make a "Future You" Travel Fund in 10 Minutes

One of the easiest ways to make travel actually happen is to start paying for it before you're ready to book.

I know that sounds a little backwards. But hear me out — because this one small shift changes how the whole process feels.

Why a Dedicated Travel Fund Works

When vacation money is mixed in with your regular savings, it never really feels available. You second-guess spending it. You feel the sticker shock when it's time to book. You talk yourself out of the nicer room or the better flight time because it "feels like a lot."

A dedicated travel fund changes all of that. Here's why:

Less sticker shock when it's time to book. The money is already earmarked. It exists for this exact purpose. Spending it doesn't feel irresponsible — it feels intentional.

More flexibility to say yes to the better option. Want the resort hotel instead of the off-site one? The nonstop flight instead of the connection? When the fund is healthy, the answer is yes.

More peace of mind throughout the year. There's something really grounding about knowing your vacation is being funded in the background, even on weeks when travel feels far away.

A real timeline. A travel fund turns "someday" into "we're actually doing this."

The 10-Minute Setup

You don't need a fancy system. Here's all it takes:

  • Create a separate savings "bucket" in your bank app — most banks let you name them. Call it TRIP, DISNEY FUND, ADVENTURE ACCOUNT — whatever makes you smile when you see it.

  • Set an automatic transfer for whatever amount works — weekly, biweekly, or each payday. Even $25 a week is $1,300 a year.

  • Funnel any windfalls straight in. Tax refund? Birthday money? Random rebate check? It goes in the fund. You won't miss it and future you will be thrilled.
