Travel Tip Tuesday: How to Make 3 PTO Days Feel Like a 10-Day Vacation
What if I told you that you don't need to burn your entire PTO bank to take a real, long, feels-like-forever vacation?
Because you don't. You just need the right strategy — and once I share this with you, you're going to wonder why nobody told you sooner.
The Secret: Stack Your PTO Around Weekends (and Holidays)
The basic idea is simple. Instead of using PTO on days you'd already be off anyway, you use it strategically between weekends so the whole block of time strings together into one long, glorious stretch of vacation days.
Here's the formula:
✅ Use PTO Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
✅ Let the weekends do the heavy lifting on either end
✅ Add a holiday Monday or Friday whenever you can
Let's Break It Down With a Real Example:
Off Saturday + Sunday (weekend — no PTO needed!)
Off Monday (holiday or one extra PTO day)
PTO Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (that's just 3 days)
Off Friday (one more PTO day or holiday)
Off Saturday + Sunday (another free weekend!)
That's potentially 9–10 days away using only 3–4 PTO days. Yes, really.
Why This Works So Well:
More travel days for the same amount of PTO means you're getting way more vacation for your time. And here's a bonus most people don't think about — midweek flights are almost always cheaper and less crowded than weekend travel. So not only do you get more days, you often save money getting there too. And perhaps most importantly? A trip that feels longer is a trip you actually come home from feeling recharged.
The Best Part?
This strategy works for ANY destination — a Disney trip, a beach week, an international adventure, a cruise. Whatever your dream vacation looks like, I can help you build the perfect itinerary around your PTO calendar so you get every single day possible out of your time off.
That's literally what I do. 😄
