The Magic of Disney at Christmas — Why a Holiday Disney Trip Belongs on Your Bucket List
I know. It's May. Summer is about to officially start in this house — Lennon's kindergarten graduation was yesterday and we are fully in the season of sunshine and pool days and not thinking too far ahead.
But here's the thing about Disney travel: the best experiences require the most planning. And if a holiday Disney trip has ever crossed your mind — Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, Jollywood Nights, the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, the castle draped in lights and snow — the time to start thinking about it is now.
Because families who wait until fall to plan a December Disney trip often find themselves disappointed. And I don't want that to be you.
So let me paint you a picture.
Disney at Christmas is a completely different experience
If you've only been to Disney World in the spring or summer, a holiday trip will genuinely surprise you. Not just because of the decorations — though those alone are worth the trip — but because of the feeling.
Main Street USA transforms into something that looks like it was designed specifically to make you cry in the best possible way. Garland, lights, a massive Christmas tree in the center, and carolers performing in the kind of snow that only Disney can manufacture and make feel completely real. The entire park smells like cinnamon and evergreen and something I can only describe as pure Christmas.
And then the castle.
Cinderella Castle at Christmas — lit up in thousands of warm white lights with projection mapping that transforms it into something straight out of a fairy tale — is one of the most breathtaking things I have ever seen. Every single time.
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party
This is Disney's special ticketed holiday event held on select nights throughout November and December at Magic Kingdom — and it is absolutely worth the extra ticket price.
Exclusive entertainment you cannot see anywhere else. A holiday-themed parade. Special character meets including some you'd never find during regular park hours. Complimentary cocoa, cookies, and apple cider. And because it's a separately ticketed event, the crowds are smaller than a regular park day — which means you're experiencing all of this without fighting through the usual masses.
Here's what I need you to hear: these dates sell out. Every single year. Families who wait until October to start thinking about a holiday Disney trip often find that the party dates they wanted are already gone — and there's nothing more heartbreaking than being at Disney World in December and watching the Magic Kingdom Christmas party happen without you.
The single best thing you can do right now — before dates are even released — is book your trip. Because here's the magic of working with a travel advisor: the moment Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party dates drop, I will be right there to grab your tickets before they're gone. You don't have to be watching a screen at midnight hoping to snag a spot. I do that for you.
Book your holiday Disney trip now and you'll be at the front of the line the second party tickets become available. That peace of mind alone is worth it.

Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios at Christmas deserves its own conversation because it offers something genuinely unlike anything else at Walt Disney World.
Jollywood Nights is a separately ticketed, limited-capacity after-hours event held on select nights from early November through late December at Hollywood Studios — offering a more refined holiday vibe with sparkling décor, modern beats over classic holiday songs, craft cocktails, decadent dishes, rare character meets, and stunning stage shows.
The event runs from 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with ticket holders able to enter Hollywood Studios as early as 5:30 PM for a head start on the evening.
Here's what makes it special:
Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! — A stunning display of fireworks, lasers, lights, projections, and merry music that is only available at Disney Jollywood Nights. The Chinese Theater as your backdrop for a holiday fireworks spectacular is something you have to see to believe.
Holidays in Hollywood — A stage show at Theater of the Stars rooted in the glitz and glamour of vintage Hollywood television specials with a contemporary Disney holiday twist. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy host with appearances by Tiana, Belle, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey Mouse, joined by singers, dancers, and live jazz musicians. It is pure joy from start to finish.
Rare character meets — Jollywood Nights features over 20 rare characters including The Mandalorian and Grogu at Galaxy's Edge, Miguel from Coco, Lotso and Bo Peep from Toy Story Land, and more. These are characters you simply won't find during a regular park day.
Jazzy Holidays at The Hollywood Brown Derby — An exclusive experience where guests can sip craft cocktails and enjoy an event-exclusive menu of light bites while a pianist plays smooth holiday tunes. This is a limited-capacity experience and reservations are strongly recommended.
Sunset Seasons Greetings — The Tower of Terror holiday projection show running throughout the evening. If you've never seen it, add it to the list immediately.
Jollywood Nights has a more refined, adult and family vibe compared to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party — it's a glitzy Hollywood holiday experience rather than a classic Magic Kingdom Christmas celebration. They serve different purposes and honestly many Disney families choose to do both. I don't blame them for a single second.
In 2025, ticket prices ranged from $159 to $199 depending on the date, with Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club members saving $10 per ticket. 2026 dates and pricing haven't been officially announced yet — Disney typically releases those details in July — but the event has already been confirmed for a 2026 return.
Which means if this is on your radar, now is the time to get on my radar. The moment Jollywood Nights tickets drop I will be right there to grab yours before they disappear. Book your holiday trip now and you'll be at the front of the line for both party experiences. 🤍
EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays
EPCOT's holiday festival runs through the entire holiday season and it is a love letter to the diversity of holiday traditions around the world.
Each country in the World Showcase celebrates a different holiday tradition with special food, entertainment, and storytelling. The Candlelight Processional — a retelling of the Christmas story with a celebrity narrator and a massive choir backed by a full orchestra — is one of the most unexpectedly moving experiences at Walt Disney World. I am not exaggerating when I say grown adults cry.
Add in the holiday kitchens serving special seasonal food from around the world and an EPCOT Christmas trip is genuinely its own category of magical. And unlike Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights, the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays is included with regular park admission — no separate ticket required. It runs daily throughout the holiday season and it is worth every single minute you spend in it.
Animal Kingdom at the holidays
Animal Kingdom celebrates with stunning nature-inspired seasonal touches throughout the park that feel completely unique to anything else on property — a quieter, more immersive holiday experience that is deeply underrated. The holiday theming here doesn't try to be Magic Kingdom. It leans into the natural world, the warmth of the season, and the stories of the park in a way that feels genuinely special. If you've never experienced Animal Kingdom during the holidays, add it to your list.
When to go and what to know
The holiday season at Disney World runs roughly from mid-November through early January. The crowd levels vary significantly depending on when you go — Thanksgiving week and Christmas week are among the busiest times of the entire year, while mid-November, early December, and the week after New Year's are significantly more manageable.
If you want the magic without the maximum crowds, early December is the sweet spot. The decorations are fully up, the parties are running, the festivals are in full swing — and the parks are far less packed than they'll be in the final weeks of the year.
And I'll say it one more time because it matters: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights both sell out. If a holiday trip is on your radar for 2026, the time to start planning is right now — not in September, not when the leaves start to change, not when you see the first holiday commercial on TV. Now. While your options are wide open and I can get you exactly what you want.
This is my favorite thing to plan & favorite time to go!
I want to be completely honest: holiday Disney trips are one of my absolute favorite things to plan for families. There is something about helping someone experience Disney at Christmas for the first time — especially with little ones — that never gets old.
The look on a child's face when they see that castle lit up for the holidays for the first time is something a parent carries with them forever.
If that's an experience you want for your family this holiday season — let's start planning it now. I'll handle the research, the bookings, the party tickets, all of it. You just show up and make the memories.
And my services are always completely free to you.
