America Turns 250 This Weekend — Here's How to Celebrate the Magic (Disney Style)
Friends, can we just sit with this for a second? This weekend, our country turns 250 years old. A quarter of a millennium since the Declaration of Independence was signed. That's not just a birthday — that's a legacy. And if you know me, you know I can't talk about American history without thinking about my dad, who instilled in me both a love of this country and a love of Disney that shaped who I am today.
So when I found out Disney was going all-in on America's Semiquincentennial (yep, that's the official word for the 250th — I had to look it up too), it felt like the perfect full-circle moment to celebrate.
Here's everything you need to know about "Disney Celebrates America" — and how you can be part of it, whether you're headed to the parks this weekend or just celebrating from home.
What Is "Disney Celebrates America"?
Disney kicked this celebration off back on Veterans Day 2025, and it's been building all the way to this Fourth of July weekend — the true finish line. It's a company-wide initiative spanning the parks, Disney+, ABC, ESPN, National Geographic, and more, all designed to honor the people, places, and stories that make America what it is.
And this weekend, it's all coming together in the biggest way.
What's Happening at the Parks
If you're lucky enough to be at Magic Kingdom or Disneyland this weekend, here's what you don't want to miss:
✅ Disney's Celebrate America! — A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky This fan-favorite fireworks show is playing all three nights of the holiday weekend, July 3–5, at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland. If you've never seen it, it's pure chills-down-your-arms magic.
✅ Soarin' Across America A brand-new version of the beloved Soarin' attraction has launched at EPCOT and Disney California Adventure just for the anniversary — a flight over America's most iconic landscapes.
✅ Patriotic Décor and Lighting Main Street, U.S.A. at both coasts and Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure are dressed in red, white, and blue, and Spaceship Earth at EPCOT is getting special patriotic lighting.
✅ Military Tributes Disney is honoring our veterans and active service members all weekend with special ceremonies, military band performances, and an extended run of the Portraits of Courage exhibit at EPCOT's American Adventure Pavilion — featuring more than 60 paintings by President George W. Bush honoring post-9/11 veterans.
✅ Special TV Coverage Even if you're not at the parks, you can watch the magic unfold. ABC News anchor David Muir is leading 24 hours of coverage starting the evening of July 3 through July 4, streaming across ABC, Disney+, Hulu, and ABC News Live. There's also a special called "Disney Celebrates America: The Pursuit of Happiness," reporting live from both Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Why This Matters to Me (and My Family)
Real talk — I think about my dad every single time I walk down Main Street, U.S.A. His love for this country and his love for Disney were never separate things to him; they were woven together. Watching this kind of celebration unfold, one that leans so hard into hometown pride, hard work, and the American dream, feels like exactly the kind of moment he would've loved.
That's what Disney does best, honestly. It takes something as big as 250 years of history and makes it feel personal — like it belongs to your family, too.
How to Celebrate, Wherever You Are
You don't have to be inside the parks to be part of this milestone. Here are a few simple ways to celebrate as a family this weekend:
Stream the ABC/Disney+ coverage together on the night of July 3–4
Watch (or rewatch!) a patriotic Disney+ pick as a family movie night
If you're local to a Disney destination, catch the fireworks in person — the Concert in the Sky is worth the trip alone
Talk to your kids about what this milestone means — 250 years is a big number for little minds to grasp, and it's a great teaching moment
However you celebrate, I hope this weekend feels like real life, real magic, and real gratitude for the country we call home.
Happy 250th, America. 🇺🇸✨
xoxo,
Katie
