✨ Travel Tip Tuesday: Online Reviews Don’t Tell the Whole Story
When people are planning a vacation, reviews often become the deciding factor.
And I get it — reading other travelers’ experiences feels smart and responsible.
But here’s something I tell my clients all the time:
👉 reviews are helpful, but they’re also messy.
They’re emotional.
They’re personal.
And they don’t always apply to you.
Let’s talk about why.
Reviews Are Built on Personal Preference
What one person loves, another might dislike.
For example:
✨ quiet vs lively
✨ modern vs classic
✨ family-focused vs adults-only
✨ lots of activity vs total relaxation
None of those are right or wrong.
They’re just different styles.
Timing Can Change Everything
A review might reflect:
construction happening during that visit
peak season crowd levels
weather challenges
staffing fluctuations
Those situations may not exist when you travel.
But they can heavily influence someone’s opinion in the moment.
Expectations Play a Huge Role
This is a big one.
Sometimes someone books a budget-friendly option while secretly hoping for a luxury experience.
When reality doesn’t match the dream, disappointment shows up in the review.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean the property failed — it might have delivered exactly what it promised.
One-Off Situations Can Skew Things
A delayed check-in.
A noisy neighbor.
A rainy week.
Those are real experiences, but they may not represent what most travelers encounter.
The Better Question to Ask
Instead of:
“Is this place good?”
I encourage clients to ask:
👉 “Is this place good for me?”
Because that changes everything.
This Is Where a Travel Advisor Helps 🤍
Part of my job is helping you read between the lines.
I look for:
✔ repeated themes across reviews
✔ patterns that truly impact comfort
✔ strengths of the property
✔ where it might fall short depending on your priorities
Then I match that information to how you like to travel.
Not how a stranger on the internet travels.
Feeling Stuck Between Options?
If reviews are sending you into a spiral (been there 🙋♀️), tell me what matters most to you.
Is it:
🏖 beach access?
🍽 food quality?
🚶 walkability?
😌 quiet atmosphere?
🎉 lots happening?
📍 proximity to attractions?
Once I know that, I can help narrow things down fast and confidently.
Vacations should feel exciting — not overwhelming.
And sometimes clarity comes from having someone filter the noise for you.
If you want, I’d love to help.
👉 Send me the options you’re considering, and I’ll walk you through what I’d pay attention to.
xoxo,
Katie
